Questions began to be raised about the silence of the Prime Minister, the Home Minister, and the Minister of Security during the ceasefire between Pakistan and India.

The government’s lack of transparency in the entire matter, and the absence of public communication, have led to questions about the Prime Minister. As tensions between the two countries escalated, especially after the Pahalgam attack (April 22, 2025), in which 26 people were killed, top officials in the Indian government did not clearly communicate the situation to the public.

Instead, the government focused on all-party meetings and military exercises, leading many to believe that the government was deliberately hiding information.

Opposition’s allegation:

The opposition, especially the Congress and other regional parties, accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of failing to handle the situation and remaining silent on the issue of national security. They say the government described “Operation Sindoor” (May 7, 2025) in response to the Pahalgam attack as a success, but did not provide full information about its results.

Ex-Army officers’ displeasure:

Ex-Army officers questioned the government’s strategy, especially for its weakness in preventing Pakistan’s counter-attacks (such as the air strikes on Jammu and Pathankot, May 8, 2025). They believe that the government allowed the situation to escalate to the brink of war, which was a major threat to Punjab and Sikh religious sites.

India’s Achievements in the 4-day conflict

India achieved some important achievements in the 4-day conflict (May 7-10, 2025),

Operation Sindoor: The Indian Air Force attacked terrorist hideouts in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and inside Pakistan with 24 missiles in 25 minutes, destroying the headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad. According to media reports, more than 70 terrorists were killed.

Pakistan’s attacks foiled: Pakistan’s missiles and drone attacks (Satwari, Samba, Arnia, Jammu, Pathankot) were neutralized by the Indian air defense system, causing no casualties.

Border security: Mock drills and blackout exercises in Punjab and Rajasthan increased security in the border areas.

US Mediation and Possible Hidden Agreements

The significance of US mediation can be gauged from Donald Trump’s claim that India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire.

Reasons for US mediation

Regional stability: The US needed peace in the region, as both India and Pakistan are nuclear powers. Escalation of the war was a threat to the global economy and security.

Chinese influence:

China’s closeness to Pakistan (especially arms supplies, such as PL-15 missiles) energized the US, as it wanted to balance China’s influence.

US intelligence: According to reports, the US had prior intelligence of the Pahalgam attack, which prompted it to take immediate action to stop the conflict.

Possibility of hidden agreements: Although there is no concrete evidence, some media and analysts have speculated that the US may have made strategic agreements to get India to agree to a ceasefire, such as, Counter-terrorism cooperation, joint action on Pakistan’s terrorist networks.

Economic support: facilitation of trade or defence deals to India. Regional security: US support for India against China. However, this is only speculation, as neither the Indian government nor the US has confirmed such agreements.

Pakistani Missiles Intercepted In Jammu, shortly before 9 PM

The government’s silence has created resentment among the opposition and former army officers, raising questions about transparency. India has achieved significant successes in the conflict by destroying terrorist hideouts and thwarting Pakistani attacks. US mediation made the ceasefire possible, but there is only speculation about hidden agreements. The government needs to increase public communication to reduce such questions.
