The son of former Sarpanch Malkit Kaur of village Sehna in Bhadour constituency of Barnala district was shot dead in broad daylight, the accused absconding.
SNPNEWS.IN (News Update By Gurmail Kamboj in October 2025): Sukhwinder Singh Kalkatta, son of former Sarpanch Malkit Kaur of village Sehna in Bhadour constituency of Barnala district, was shot dead by an unknown person at a shop in the bus stand at around 4 pm today.
Bhadour Police administration said that the attacker came and attacked and the attacker escaped after the attack.
According to the administration, information about the accused is being obtained from CCTV footage and eyewitnesses. So far, the motive of the murder will come out after the police investigation, everything is still unclear.
Sukhwinder Singh Kalkatta came into the limelight in February 2023 after a dispute with Bhadaur MLA Labh Singh Ugoke over the issue of opening a common man clinic in Sehna’s Primary Health Centre (PHC).
Sukhwinder supported the opening of the clinic, but raised his voice against converting the village PHC into a clinic. He offered the MLA to open a clinic in another building in the village, after which the MLA got angry and threatened to jail him. The incident took place in front of the police and civil authorities.
After this incident, the sarpanches of Sehna and nearby villages protested against the MLA and demanded an apology from him. Panchayat Union Punjab President Ravinder Rinku announced that if the MLA did not apologize, a dharna would be held in front of his house in Tapa.
Sukhwinder often reminded the Punjab government and Bhadaur MLA Labh Singh Ugoke of the development promises made to the constituency before the 2022 elections. He had recently exposed the flaws in the Punjab government’s education revolution campaign.
Currently, Sukhwinder Singh was associated with Simranjit Singh Mann’s party Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar, he used to be a topic of discussion in the politics of the area.
After the murder of the deceased Sukhwinder Singh, an atmosphere of fear and intimidation has prevailed in the area, the villagers and Sukhwinder’s family members are demanding a search for the accused and strict action.
Barnala SSP Mohd Sarfaraz Alam said, “We have got some leads against one Jinder Singh and are working on them. During the preliminary investigation, and as per some eyewitnesses, it has emerged that the accused and the victim, both in their forties, belonged to Sehna village, knew each other and had come together to the spot. It primarily seems to be a case of personal enmity. The teams are working, and things will clear soon.”
