A car crushed police personnel and a person at a checkpoint set up on Friday morning at the Zirakpur border in Chandigarh. All three died on the spot in the accident.

A car crushed police personnel and a person at a checkpoint set up on Friday morning at the Zirakpur border in Chandigarh. All three died on the spot in the accident. The speed of the car was so high that all three persons got stuck in the barbed wire set up for security and their bodies were cut into pieces.

Constable Sukhdarshan, Home Guard volunteer Rajesh and another person are among the deceased.  As soon as the incident was reported, Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur personally reached the spot and took stock of the incident. The police have arrested the accused driver on the basis of CCTV footage. A case has been registered against him at Sector 31 police station.

The police were checking the Baleno car

According to the police, constable Sukhdarshan and volunteer Rajesh had stopped the Baleno car for checking at the Chandigarh-Zirakpur checkpoint. Then suddenly a speeding Polo car came from behind. It hit the Baleno car and the police personnel standing at the post.

During this, the car driver was also standing with the police, in the collision, all three persons were caught in the grip of the car. The police had installed barbed wire at the post for security. All three jumped and got stuck in the wires and their bodies were cut into pieces. Even the hands and feet of the police personnel were severed.

Police caught the accused driver through CCTV camera.

As soon as the information was received, the police officers reached the spot. The accused driver fled leaving his car at the spot. After this, the police started scanning the nearby CCTV cameras. Based on the car number, the police identified the accused and arrested him.

The accused has been identified as Govind, a resident of Hallomajra, Chandigarh. It is being told that he was drunk when he crushed the three. The police have got him medically examined.

The constable’s wife is also in the police.

The wife of the deceased constable Sukhdarshan, Renu, is also in the Chandigarh Police. He is posted in Sector-19 police station. While the home guard Rajesh was a resident of Gurdaspur, Punjab. He lived in Sector-31. Before this, he was posted in the traffic police.

The third person who died has been identified as Samarth Dua.  He lived on the campus of Panjab University and worked for a mobile company.
