Central government Announces Subsidy Under NBS Scheme for 2025-26 (DAP, Potash, NPKs)

The Central Government will provide financial assistance to fertilizer companies under the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) Scheme, ensuring that fertilizer prices remain controlled.

SNPNEWS.IN (Gurmail Kamboj) – The Central Government, on 28 October 2025, has approved ₹37,952.29 crore in subsidy for phosphatic and potassic (P&K) fertilizers for the Rabi season 2025-26. This announcement was made in the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Compared to last year (₹24,476 crore), this is an increase of approximately ₹14,000 crore, which will protect farmers from financial burden and ensure fertilizers are available at lower prices. This subsidy will be effective from 1 October 2025 to 31 March 2026.

Under this scheme, phosphatic and potassic (P&K) fertilizers such as DAP, NPKS, Sulphur, TSP, SSP, etc.(28 grades) are covered.

Additionally, Urea, which comes under the NPS (New Pricing Scheme) instead of NBS, will receive a subsidy of ₹1,52,000 crore. This is ₹12,000 crore more than last year (due to rise in international gas prices). Urea subsidy depends on gas prices, production plants, and pooling, ranging between ₹1,755 to ₹2,205 per 45 kg bag.

The Central Government will release a total subsidy of ₹1,89,952.29 crore for all fertilizers in 2025-26. This subsidy will be given as financial assistance to fertilizer companies, ensuring price control and availability of fertilizers to farmers at lower rates, even if international prices rise in the future.
