The controversy that arose between ABP News journalist Chitra Tripathi and Congress leader Dr. Ragini Nayak brought the layers of their personal lives to social media.
SNPNEWS.IN Friday 29 August 2025: controversy arose between Chitra Tripathi (a famous Indian TV news anchor of ABP News) and Dr. Ragini Nayak (a spokesperson of the Congress party) on the social media platform X in August 2025. The controversy is related to Chitra’s old videos, her personal life and political debates.
Origin of the controversy: Old videos and political attacks
● On 23 August 2025, an X user shared a video of Chitra Tripathi with Ravi Kishan at a family function (Chitra Tripathi’s nephew’s birthday, 8 August 2025, in Gorakhpur). In it, Ravi Kishan was seen with Chitra and the women of her family (many of whom are not even on social media).
Chitra called it a “cheap move” and a “dirty mentality” because the X user had Share Chitra’s family’s Video without permission. When Chitra threatened legal action and asked to remove the video, the user removed the video.
● On August 24 2025, Ragini Nayak shared an old video on X, which was related to a debate between Chitra Tripathi and BJP’s (MP) Ravi Kishan.
Ragini promoted it as Chitra’s “journalism giving cover fire to BJP & their Spokesperson’s.” She wrote, “You don’t even know how to conduct a debate Chitra ji! You only act as a shield for BJP’s MP.”
● On August 25 2025, Chitra replied to Ragini through X and said that she is having to troll by digging up old videos.
She wrote, “What a bad day you have had Ragini ji, you have to take out a video that is years old to troll me. I debate every day, take out some new issues.” After this, the controversy escalated.
● Ragini targeted Chitra, In response to Chitra’s tweet, Ragini asked Chitra to read the comments on her tweet and said that people are trolling themselves. She also called Chitra “BJP’s Charan Chumbak journalist” and threatened that she will “expose” Chitra.
● Ragini again targeted Chitra & said, “From OYO to Ravi Kishan, people know everything.” Ragini’s reference to OYO was to ask her to pay attention to the controversy surrounding Chitra’s marriage with her husband Atul Agarwal.
In fact, in June 2021, Chitra’s husband Atul Agarwal (who is himself a news anchor and editor-in-chief of a Hindi news channel) had posted on social media, in which he claimed that he was stopped by 5 robbers on bikes at 1 am in Noida Extension (Bisarakh area) and robbed of Rs 5000 at gunpoint. He tagged the Uttar Pradesh Police, but they still did not register an FIR. This post went viral and the police started a suo moto (self-proclaimed) investigation.
Noida Police examined CCTV footage, bank records and electronic evidence. The results revealed that Atul had lied. In fact, he had gone to a “female friend’s” house for dinner on June 19, 2021 at 7 pm. He left there after receiving a call from Chitra Tripathi at 10:45 pm.
Then he went to an OYO hotel room in Sector 121, where he spent the night and stayed till 11:45 am. The bank records also found the payment for the OYO room booking. He called his female friend at 1:20 am and said that he was looking for an OYO room, but did not mention the robbery.
The police said that the distance from the robbery site to the OYO is 15-16 minutes, but Atul reached in 13 minutes. Which is impossible. Atul had made a false claim due to “personal reasons”.
The incident created deep tension in Chitra and Atul’s marriage. Chitra filed an FIR in 2023 against a Twitter user (Amit Damodar), who had made lewd comments regarding the OYO case.
Chitra said that she knew about staying in OYO (due to a quarrel), but Atul was not with any woman.
In March 2025, they decided to separate and informed that they had separated after 16 years. But they will raise their son together. People considered the OYO case as the reason for the separation, although Chitra did not give the reason.
●Chitra replied to Ragini, Chitra remembered Ragini for losing in the Wazirpur assembly elections (2025), where Ragini had to lose. She said, “Congratulations to the people of Wazirpur in Delhi, you chose lotus instead of mud.
Ragini, your sanskar is visible in your tweets.” She said to stop personal attacks that I hope you will keep your distance from issues related to low levels and personal life.
●Personal attack by Ragini, Ragini used this (OYO) controversy to attack Chitra’s “morals” and personal life and said (“Before talking about morals, look at your home, “married at home, single outside”). She said I love Congress, they fought elections for me, I lost but still I will fight. But you can’t say anything without BJP.” She also called Chitra a “talva chatu journalist.”
After this controversy, people are trolling Chitra on X at large as “OYO anchor.” This controversy highlights the impartiality of journalism, personal life and social media trolling.
