Hindu organisations in Maharashtra protested across the state on Monday over the Aurangzeb Tomb controversy. During this, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) burnt an effigy of Aurangzeb in Nagpur. It allegedly used objectionable material. Its video went viral. Violence broke out in Nagpur’s Mahal area at 8:30 pm on Monday. After this, stone pelting and vandalism started.

Miscreants pelted stones at houses and set a vehicle parked on the roadside on fire. Police were also attacked. DCP Niketan Kadam was injured in the attack with an axe and tear gas shells were fired to control the situation and more than 55 people have been detained.

Police Commissioner Ravinder Singhal said that Section 163 of the BNS (similar to Section 144 of the IPC) has been implemented in the city. Meanwhile, according to media reports, 20 police teams have been formed to restore peace.
On the other hand, CM Devendra Fadnavis held a meeting with state BJP president and cabinet minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule late at night. After this, Bawankule left for Nagpur. The Chief Minister has asked him to submit a report on the incident.Bawankule is the guardian minister of Nagpur. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is the MLA from the Nagpur South-West seat. Along with this, security has been increased at the tomb of Aurangzeb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The SP said that one company and two platoons of SRPF have been deployed in the district.
Nagpur Violence Case: the rioters came with their faces covered
Eyewitnesses said that the rioters had covered their faces. They had swords, sticks and bottles in their hands. Suddenly everyone started creating a ruckus. They started throwing stones at houses. They vandalised shops. After this, they started breaking the windows of vehicles and set them on fire.
Security beefed up in Mumbai’s Muslim-majority areas
After the violence, curfew has been imposed in Ganeshpeth, Lakadganj, Pachpavli, Shantinagar, Sakkardara, Nandanvan, Imamwada, Yashodhara Nagar and Kapil Nagar of the city. Apart from this, police security has also been increased in Mumbai.

Local police were alerted in Muslim-dominated areas like Malavani, Bhindi Bazaar, Kurla, Shivaji Nagar-Mankhurd and Antophill. Mumbai Police has also contacted prominent people of all religions in various areas and appealed to them not to believe any kind of rumour.
