The environment of the country’s capital Delhi became a polluted chamber after October 14 in the second week of October, from which the government tried cloud seeding technique to get relief, which failed.
SNPNEWS.IN News (Gurmail Kamboj): Often, Delhi’s environment becomes extremely polluted in the beginning of winter or in October. Often, the Delhi government blames the farmers of Punjab/Haryana for (stubble burning).
This time too, between October 14 and October 22, Delhi’s AQI remained between 200-400 during the days of Diwali. For which Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa were once again seen blaming the farmers of Punjab.
While in reality, the capital’s AQI on October 14 was around 200, which was recorded by the CPCB between October 17-22 as 290-400+ (Punjab’s AQI was 135-250 during this period). Delhi’s AQI was recorded between 305-315 this morning (October 29).

Delhi is said to be the most polluted city in the world. In October-November, due to vehicle smoke, factories and Diwali crackers and crop residues, Delhi’s AQI goes up to 300-400+. This makes the air like a ‘gas chamber’ and many other problems increase besides respiratory diseases. Such a polluted environment has the greatest impact on children, the elderly and the sick.
To control the pollution in the capital, the administration has used cloud seeding (a chemical method for natural rain). The government, in collaboration with IIT Kanpur, tried to induce rain through cloud seeding method from October 23-28 (in Burari, Karol Bagh, Mayur Vihar) but it failed. The process cost Rs 3.2 crore. The moisture content in the clouds was less than 20-50%, which is necessary for rain, and the rain could not fall due to low visibility and humidity.
The capital’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa called it a “big step” and talked about 9-10 more trials. The opposition AAP targeted the BJP as “liars”.
IIT Delhi professors called it a “snake-oil solution”. According to analysts, it gives relief for only 1-2 days, and the administrators are unaware of the long-term side effects of the chemicals. The government is ignoring the root causes (vehicles, factories, firecrackers, and burning of crop residues).
