Following the death of Navjot Singh, Deputy Secretary in the Finance Ministry, in a road accident, his son raised serious questions about the system and administration in a statement to PTI.

SNPNEWS.IN News Update, September 25: New Delhi, On September 14, 2025, Navjot Singh, Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Government of India, died in a road accident on Delhi’s Ring Road. His wife sustained serious injuries and is under treatment.
The accident occurred near Dhaula Kuan on Ring Road, close to Metro Pillar No. 57. Navjot Singh (aged approximately 50) was riding a motorcycle with his wife, returning to Hari Nagar in West Delhi after visiting Bangla Sahib Gurudwara. A speeding BMW car struck their motorcycle from behind. The car was driven by Gaganpreet Kaur, accompanied by her husband Parikshit Kakkar (both residents of Gurugram), who were also injured in the accident. According to eyewitnesses, the car was traveling at a very high speed.
Navjot Singh suffered severe injuries and died at the scene. His wife was rushed to a hospital in critical condition and is currently on a ventilator.
The family and eyewitnesses have raised serious concerns over the delay in transporting the injured to a hospital located approximately 22 kilometers away, making the incident a subject of controversy.
● After the accident, the accused couple hired a taxi to take the injured to the hospital.
● Due to the unavailability of beds in nearby hospitals, the injured were taken 22 kilometers away, which took over 45 minutes.
● Why were ambulance services (such as 108) unavailable in Delhi?
● Why was there a shortage of beds in nearby hospitals like Ram Manohar Lohia or Safdarjung? Is the infrastructure of government hospitals inadequate?
● Why was such treatment meted out to the family of a senior government official? Could special arrangements not have been made?
Navjot Singh’s son, Navnoor Singh, in a statement to PTI, raised serious questions about the delay in hospital transport. Navnoor revealed that the accused driver chose to take them to Newlife Hospital in GTB Nagar, 22 kilometers away, instead of nearby hospitals, resulting in his father’s death. “After the accident, a taxi was used instead of an ambulance to take them to the hospital. It was claimed that no beds were available in nearby hospitals like Ram Manohar Lohia or Safdarjung,” Navnoor said.
The hospital is linked to the family of the accused, Gaganpreet Kaur. “My mother, Sandeep Kaur, sustained serious injuries and is on a ventilator. Upon reaching the hospital, she was kept in the lobby and not provided a bed,” Navnoor added. He further stated that he tried calling his parents after returning from a friend’s house but received no response. A known person informed him about the accident, and upon reaching the hospital, he learned they had been taken to the wrong hospital. Source: PTI
The Delhi Police have seized the BMW and the motorcycle. The forensic team has conducted an on-site investigation. According to the investigating officer, a case has been registered under IPC Sections 279 (rash driving), 304A (causing death by negligence), and 337 (causing hurt by negligence). CCTV footage analysis is ongoing.
Police investigations revealed that Newlife Hospital is connected to Gaganpreet Kaur’s father, who is a co-owner, further strengthening Navnoor’s claims. Gaganpreet Kaur and her husband Parikshit Kakkar, both injured in the accident, were admitted to the hospital. Gaganpreet was arrested on September 15 after being discharged from the hospital.
The Finance Ministry has announced financial assistance for the family and an internal inquiry. Navjot Singh was due for a promotion in six months and was working on projects with UNDP and the World Bank.
