Dera Baba Nanak: 7 People Injured in Accident While Making Desi Firecrackers

A major accident occurred in Dera Baba Nanak while celebrating Diwali. A family was making desi firecrackers at home when an explosion involving explosive substances like sulfur (gandhak) and potash (potassium) injured 7 people.

SNPNEWS.IN News (Gurmail Kamboj): On October 22, 2025, in the village of Dharamabad under the tehsil of Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district of Punjab, 7 members of the same family were injured in an accident while mixing explosive substances like sulfur (sulfur) and potash (potassium) to make desi firecrackers. One of them, a 19-year-old youth, died in the hospital.

The injured were first admitted to the Civil Hospital in Dera Baba Nanak, from where, seeing their critical condition, they were referred to a private hospital in Amritsar and kept under treatment.

Dera Baba Nanak Station House Officer Ashok Kumar has confirmed that an investigation into the incident has begun, and a case will be registered regarding the illegal use and sale of explosive substances. He stated that a forensic team is also investigating the matter.

This accident turned the joy of Diwali celebrations into sorrow. Authorities have appealed to the public to exercise caution while making or using firecrackers and to use only government-licensed firecrackers.
