A hotel businessman from Raipur has accused a DSP posted in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district of cheating him of 2–3 crore rupees by trapping him in a love affair (honey trap).
SNPNEWS.IN News (Gurmail Kamboj): Serious allegations have been leveled against 2017-batch IPS officer and DSP Kalpana Verma, currently posted in Dantewada district, Chhattisgarh, by Raipur-based hotel businessman Deepak Tandon and his wife Barkha Tandon.
In a complaint filed with the police on 9 December, Deepak Tandon claimed that DSP Kalpana Verma trapped him in a honey trap and defrauded him of crores of rupees.
According to the complaint:
Deepak and Kalpana Verma first connected through social media in 2021. Their closeness grew, they started trusting each other, and the relationship turned romantic. Taking advantage of this, Kalpana Verma allegedly cheated him of:
● ₹2–2.5 crore in cash
● A diamond ring worth ₹12 lakh
● Gold jewellery worth ₹5 lakh
● A bracelet worth ₹1 lakh
● An Innova Crysta car worth ₹22 lakh
She also got a hotel property located on VIP Road, Raipur, transferred in the name of her brother, and later got it transferred in her own name.

After the fraud, she allegedly started threatening Deepak Tandon that she would make his private photos and chats viral and get a false rape case registered against him. During this period, a cheque of ₹45 lakh was also taken from Barkha Tandon. The businessman has further alleged that the DSP pressured him to divorce his wife Barkha.
Police Action:
Chhattisgarh Police has started investigating digital evidence and bank records. A special team has been formed to probe the case. The department has issued a notice to the officer, and senior officials are treating the matter seriously. If the allegations are proven, the DSP may be suspended. A preliminary complaint has been registered against DSP Kalpana Verma, and an FIR will be lodged after the investigation if she is found guilty.
Counter Action:
Kalpana Verma’s brother has filed a counter FIR against Deepak Tandon for not returning money. Kalpana Verma has termed all the allegations as completely false and an attempt to defame her. She stated that this is the result of an old business dispute between her father Hemant Verma and Deepak (in which a cheque had bounced). She called the viral chats fake and accused Deepak of misusing her social media photos. She said she is ready to file a defamation case against Deepak Tandon and fully cooperate with the departmental investigation.
