Guwahati Test: India on the Brink of Defeat, Coach Gambhir Faces Questions

On the third day of the Guwahati Test, South Africa bowled out the Indian team for 201, with the Indian team losing 6 wickets for just 27 runs. South Africa has achieved a lead of 314 runs by the end of the day’s play.

SNPNEWS.IN News (Gurmail Kamboj): The performance of the Indian cricket team (after Gautam Gambhir became head coach) has been extremely concerning in Test cricket. Since July 9, 2024, India has played 18 Test matches, including the Guwahati Test. Of these, 12 Test matches were played on home soil (Bangladesh-2, New Zealand-3, England-5, and South Africa-2), out of which India won 4, lost 6, and had 1 draw, with the result of the Guwahati Test still pending. During this period, on foreign soil, India played matches (West Indies-2, Australia-4), in which India secured 3 wins and 3 losses.

The second Test of the India-South Africa series is being played at Barsapara Stadium. In this match, South African captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and elected to bat first. Thanks to the innings of South African batsmen Senuran Muthusamy (109-206) and Marco Jansen (93-91), the African team scored 489 runs in 151.1 overs. Indian bowler Kuldeep Yadav achieved figures of 29.1-115-4.

The Indian team’s batting was extremely poor while chasing the massive total. Apart from opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (58-97) and Washington Sundar (48-92), the entire team was all out for 201 runs in 83.5 overs. South African bowlers Marco Jansen (19.5-48-6) and Simon Harmer (27-64-3) took the wickets. South Africa had already secured a lead of 288 runs on the first innings basis, after which they enforced follow-on and decided to bat themselves.

On the third day, South Africa ended the day’s play without losing any wickets, scoring 26 runs in 8 overs. The African team has now established a lead of 314 runs over the Indian team. On the fourth day, South Africa will aim to set a target of 400+ by playing the first session and then invite India to bat, looking to win the match.
