Hanumangarh: Clash Between Police and Protesters Over Ethanol Factory Dispute

Hanumangarh – Local farmers in the area are protesting against the construction of a grain-based ethanol factory being built by ‘Doon Ethanol Private Limited’ due to environmental concerns.

SNPNEWS.IN News (Gurmail Kamboj): In Tibbi tehsil of Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh district, at Rathi Kheda village, farmers from the area have been holding peaceful protests since September 2024 against the under-construction grain-based ethanol factory being built by ‘Doon Ethanol Private Limited’ at a cost of 450 crores.

The protesting farmers claim that after the factory is built, the gases and chemicals emitted from it will pollute the area’s environment, water, and land, posing a risk of diseases in the region.

On November 27, 2025, the administration arrested 40 individuals protesting, but when local people protested, the arrested individuals were released. Representatives of the farmers and the struggle committee announced a Mahapanchayat on December 10, which turned into violence.

A large number of farmers and locals gathered near the Tibbi SDM office and started a protest demonstration. During the protest, a group of hundreds of youths and farmers marched towards the factory on tractors. When efforts to stop them failed, a clash broke out between the security personnel deployed in large numbers at the factory site and the accused.

During the clash, police used tear gas and force to stop the protesters. The protesters pelted stones at the police, resulting in 15-20 police personnel and 50-60 protesters getting injured. Among the injured was Congress MLA Abhimanyu Poonia (from Sangaria), who sustained a head injury.

The protesters demolished the temporary wall of the factory using tractors and set fire to the factory office, 1 JCB, and 12-13 vehicles. A police vehicle was also damaged during the entire incident. After the clash, the district administration shut down internet services and schools/colleges in the area. The administration has registered an FIR against more than 107 protesters and arrested 40.

The farmers/struggle committee has scheduled a meeting on December 11 at Tibbi Gurdwara Sahib to decide the next strategy, in which Factory Removal Struggle Committee leader Ranjodh Singh announced to surround the district collector’s office on November 17.

District Collector Dr. Khushal Yadav said that the factory has received all necessary approvals (from land conversion to the Pollution Control Board). This is a project approved in 2022 at the ‘Rising Rajasthan’ summit. He assured continued dialogue and keeping the situation under control.
