Heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh cause loss of over Rs 700 crore to the state

Heavy Rains Wreak Havoc In Himachal: 69 People Dead So Far

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that around 69 people have died due to the recent heavy rains in the state. According to the Chief Minister, 37 people are missing, 110 people have been injured and a loss of around Rs 700 crore has been incurred.

Some time ago, Chief Minister Sukhu, while talking to a large group of national and local journalists in the capital Shimla, said that, “Roads and water projects have suffered the most damage due to heavy rains.”

He said that there has also been a lot of damage due to uprooting of electric wires and poles.

He informed, “I have spoken to Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding this disaster and the Home Minister has said that he will provide us with full assistance and today a central team is also coming to Himachal Pradesh to assess the damage. The Himachal Pradesh government stands with the disaster-affected families. We have decided that Rs 5,000 will be provided to the affected families to live in rented houses.”

According to CM Sukhu, “Cloudburst incidents have been reported at 14 places. We are finding out why there are so many cloudburst incidents? We have rescued 92 students who were stranded in the Horticulture College. Reports of extensive damage are coming from all places.”

Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah wrote on social media platform X, “In view of the heavy rains in various parts of the country, he spoke to the Chief Ministers of Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh. Shah has assured all possible help from all sides, apart from the deployment of NDRF, to the affected states.
