India has warned Pakistan against its unprovoked firings along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu & Kashmir as the directors general of military operations of the two armies spoke on the hotline, amid the escalating tensions over last week’s terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir’s Pahalgam, sources said on Wednesday.

The development came as Pakistan resorted to firing along the International Border in the Pargawal sector late on Tuesday.

Earlier, Islamabad had tried to provoke New Delhi by violating the ceasefire along the Line of Control. India responded effectively, the sources said.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the overall security situation in Jammu & Kashmir earlier in the day, after 26 tourists – 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen – were killed in the attack on April 22.

The Resistance Front, a shadow group of the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror group, claimed responsibility for the terror strike. Following the attack, India downgraded diplomatic ties and announced a raft of measures against Pakistan, which adopted a similar move in retaliation.

Pakistan’s information minister says it believes India is planning a military strike on Pakistan within “24 to 36 hours”, amid soaring tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbours. The fallout stems from a deadly attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, which India blamed on ‘Pakistan-linked’ elements.
