International News: Ukraine launched a major drone attack deep into Russian territory

International News Ukraine Says At Least 40 Russian Warplanes Hit In Massive Drone Strikes

SNPNEWS.IN International News: June 1, 2025, Ukraine carried out a significant drone strike targeting several Russian airfields,Ukraine claims to have shot down more than 40 Russian military aircraft. These included strategic bombers such as the Tu-95, Tu-22M3, and A-50 radar search aircraft.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) is being held responsible for this action. The operation is claimed to have targeted four major Russian military airfields:

Belaya in Irkutsk Oblast, Olenya in Murmansk Oblast, Diaghilev in Ryazan Oblast, and Ivanovo in Ivanovo Oblast. Ukrainian media and some international sources claim that this was one of Kiev’s largest drone operations, with some bases located more than 4,000 kilometers from Ukraine, such as Belaya in eastern Siberia.

Videos shared by some reliable sources, including the former press secretary of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, allegedly show aircraft engulfed in flames.

However, Russian authorities have not officially confirmed the extent of the damage. The Russian governor of Irkutsk acknowledged the attack on a military unit in Sredny, which was the first such operation in Siberia.

According to sources, the Ukrainian operation was a response to Russia’s largest drone attack on Ukraine since the war began in 2022, in which Russia launched 472 drones and seven missiles targeting Kyiv and other regions.

Ukrainian forces reportedly neutralized most of them. The attacks on Russian airfields are being seen as a significant escalation, demonstrating Ukraine’s ability to strike deep into Russian territory, potentially using newly developed drones with ranges of up to 3,000 kilometers.

The attack does not coincide with ongoing peace talks, the second round of which is scheduled for June 2, 2025, in Istanbul, although Ukraine’s participation has not been confirmed. If confirmed, the attacks would represent one of the most damaging Ukrainian actions of the conflict, crippling Russia’s air capabilities.
