Iran: 45 Deaths During Anti-Government Protests.

U.S. Involvement in the Protests Ongoing in Iran for the Past 13 Days Due to Inflation, Corruption, and Economic Crisis.

SNPNEWS.IN News (Gurmail Kamboj): On December 28, 2025, traders in Tehran’s Grand Bazaar shut their shops and began a strike. These protests started due to the widespread economic crisis in the country, then spread to students, youth, and other people. During the demonstrations, anti-government slogans were raised, along with support for Reza Pahlavi (son of the former Shah). Vandalism also began. The protests that started on December 28 have now spread to all 31 provinces of Iran. People are chanting slogans like “Death to the Dictator” and in support of Reza Pahlavi (son of the former Shah).

In December 2025, the Iranian rial fell to a record low, causing inflation to rise rapidly. One U.S. dollar reached 1.4 to 1.5 million rials. This caused commodity prices to surge sharply. By December, the inflation rate had reached 42-52%. Food prices increased by up to 70%, making ordinary people’s lives extremely difficult. Large rallies occurred in cities such as Tehran, Mashhad, Isfahan, and Zahedan. Slogans like “Freedom, Freedom” and “Death to Khamenei” were being chanted.

In addition, strict U.S. sanctions (due to the nuclear program), the 2025 war with Israel, and government mismanagement severely damaged the economy. In June 2025, Israel and the United States attacked Iran’s nuclear sites (in a 12-day war). This caused further economic damage and increased sanctions.

According to human rights organizations (such as HRANA and Iran Human Rights), 45-62 people have been killed during the 13 days of protests (including several children), and more than 2,000 protesters have been arrested. Security forces opened fire to control crowds, and government buildings were set on fire.

Khamenei’s Statement: Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei gave a speech on TV today, calling the protesters “vandals” and foreign agents, and threatening U.S. President Trump by saying he has “hands stained with the blood of Iranians.” He stated that the government will not back down.

Trump and International Reaction: Trump supported the protesters and threatened that if the government increases violence, the U.S. will intervene. The European Union and other countries have condemned the violence.

Since January 8, internet and phone lines have been shut down nationwide. As a result, very few new videos and news are emerging, but those that have show government buildings on fire and vehicles burned.

Today, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei gave a speech on TV, in which he called the protesters “vandals” and “saboteurs” and accused foreign entities (especially the U.S. and Trump) of involvement. He said the government will not retreat and that strict action will be taken. The judiciary chief also threatened the protesters with “decisive and maximum” punishment.
