Lalu Yadav expels son Tej Pratap from RJD & family: Lalu Yadav’s decision comes after Tej Pratap Yadav, on his Facebook page, was seen with a woman who the caption referred to as his girlfriend.

On May 25, 2025, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav expelled his elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav, from the party for six years and disowned him from the family, citing “irresponsible behavior” and deviation from family values.
This decision followed a viral Facebook post on May 24, 2025, where Tej Pratap claimed a 12-year relationship with a woman named Anushka Yadav. The post, which included a photo and was later deleted, sparked controversy, especially given Tej Pratap’s ongoing divorce proceedings with Aishwarya Rai, whom he married in 2018. Tej Pratap later claimed his Facebook account was hacked and the photos were edited to defame him.
Lalu Yadav stated on X that neglecting moral values in personal life undermines the party’s struggle for social justice, emphasizing that Tej Pratap’s actions did not align with family traditions. He added that Tej Pratap would have no role in the party or family and that others should decide independently whether to associate with him. The move is seen as a damage control effort ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, with political observers suggesting it aims to mitigate potential backlash from opponents like the BJP-JD(U) coalition.
Tejashwi Yadav, Lalu’s younger son and RJD’s de facto leader, supported the decision but noted that personal and political lives should be separate, stating Tej Pratap, as an adult, is free to make personal decisions. However, he emphasized the party’s dedication to Bihar’s people and intolerance for such controversies.
RJD leader Rohini Acharya also backed Lalu’s decision, stressing family dignity and party values.
The expulsion has stirred debate, with some Social Media posts calling it humiliating for Tej Pratap and questioning Lalu’s moral stance, while others see it as a strategic move to protect the party’s image. Tej Pratap’s history of erratic behavior and his troubled marriage, marked by allegations of mistreatment from Aishwarya and counterclaims of excessive alimony demands, have further fueled public and political scrutiny.
