Ajit Pawar was traveling from Mumbai to Baramati, where he was scheduled to address several public rallies in connection with the ongoing Zilla Parishad elections. The chartered aircraft (Learjet 45, registration VT-SSK) veered off the runway during landing and burst into flames following an explosion.

On board the plane, besides Ajit Pawar, were his PSO (Personal Security Officer), one attendant, and two crew members (pilot and co-pilot). The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has confirmed that all 5 individuals on board perished in the crash, with no survivors.
An investigation into the accident has been initiated. Images from the wreckage showing smoke and fireballs have surfaced.
