7 arrested after a group of Kavris beat up a BSF jawan at Mirzapur railway station.

During the holy month of Sawan, devotees of Lord Shiva and Mother Ganga take holy water from the banks of Ganga and offer it to the form of Lord Shiva adorned in the Shiva temple of their area.This practice has been going on since ancient times.These days, some people in the guise of Shiva devotees pass through the roads, highways and different areas creating a ruckus. During which often a situation of dispute and even beating arises. Something similar was seen today during the hooliganism of a group of Kavris at Mirzapur railway station.
Many posts related to the incident of beating up a BSF jawan on 19 July 2025 have gone viral on social media. According to information, some Kavris assaulted a BSF jawan at Mirzapur railway station, it is alleged that the Kavris attacked not only the jawan but also an auto-driver, shopkeeper and a girl. After which anger is being seen among the people towards Kavris.
Major violent incidents committed by Kavris during the year 2024-2025:
Mansoorpur, Muzaffarnagar (July 24, 2024):
● In the Mansoorpur area of Muzaffarnagar, Kavris assaulted and vandalized the employees of a petrol pump owned by Ashutosh Sharma at a Reliance Petrol Pump, when they were prohibited from smoking. The incident caused a loss of Rs 15-20 lakh and the employee Manoj Kumar suffered serious injuries.
Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh (25 July 2024):
● In Gangoh area of Saharanpur, two brothers, Aman Kumar and Monu, were attacked by cowherds on the Delhi-Saharanpur highway after their motorcycle accidentally touched a Kavar. In the video, the Kavris were seen hitting the motorcycle with sticks, while the police were present at the spot.
Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan (29 July 2024):
● In Lohargal Dham, a group of Kavris tried to forcefully enter the women’s bathing ghat at night, leading to tension.
Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh (08 July 2025):
● In Modinagar, Kavris damaged a taxi and beat up the driver after the vehicle accidentally touched a kavar.
Muradnagar (July 13, 2025):
● In Muradnagar, a bus touched a Kavar, after which the Kavris attacked the bus driver and damaged the vehicle.
Haridwar, Uttarakhand (July 14, 2025):
● Cowsheds vandalized a spectacles shop near Har ki Pauri in Haridwar. The police arrested two persons, Mukesh alias Jandu (34) and Mukesh alias Kana (20), from Haryana.
● On the same day, in Bahadurabad, Kavris blocked the Delhi-Haridwar National Highway (NH-58) and pelted stones at the police. The police arrested two persons, Abhishek (21, Muzaffarnagar) and Yash Singh (18, Noida), using minor force.
Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh (July 19, 2025):
● A CRPF jawan was beaten up by Kavris at Mirzapur railway station. The incident started over a dispute over buying a train ticket. Seven Kavadis were arrested by the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
In the first five days of the Kavarh Yatra, which began on (July 11, 2025), several cases have been registered against Kavadis for charges like violence, rioting, blocking highways, obstructing police and disturbing the peace. Most of the incidents of hooliganism are seen in Uttarakhand, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Gujarat.
According to a report by ABP News, the incident took place at Mirzapur railway station, where a group of Kavadis allegedly attacked a CRPF jawan on July 19, 2025. According to their coverage, the brawl allegedly erupted over a dispute over buying train tickets. A viral video by ABP News shows saffron-clad Kanwaris beating and thrashing a jawan trying to board the Brahmaputra Mela. Seven Kanwaris were arrested by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) after the incident, the incident and the arrest of the accused have been confirmed by RPF in-charge Inspector Chaman Singh Tomar.
Mahant Ravinder Puri, president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad (ABAP), expressed dismay over the incidents of violence and appealed to the Kanwaris to maintain the spiritual sanctity of the yatra. He said that the purpose of the yatra is “mercy”, not “atrocities”.
