Mohali: Murder of 30-Year-Old Kabaddi Player

Mohali: At the Sohana Kabaddi Tournament, three unidentified individuals approached Kabaddi player and tournament promoter Rana Balachauria under the pretext of taking a selfie and shot him dead.

SNPNEWS.IN News (Gurmail Kamboj): On Monday, December 15, 2025, at the Sohana Kabaddi Tournament in Mohali, unidentified assailants shot Kabaddi player and tournament promoter Rana Balachauria (30 years old), leaving him seriously injured. He later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The incident occurred at a ground in Sector 82, where a four-day Kabaddi tournament organized by the Gurdwara Management Committee and Vedwan Sports Club (Vedwan Sports Club, Sohana) was underway.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers arrived in a Bolero vehicle or on a motorcycle. They approached Balachauria (some reports mention the pretext of asking for a selfie), fired 10-12 shots, and fled. Approximately 6 bullets hit Rana, some striking his head and face. Upon hearing the gunfire, panic erupted among the large crowd of spectators present at the ground.

After Balachauria’s murder, a social media post claimed responsibility on behalf of Doni Ball, Shagan Preet, Muhabbat Randhawa, Amar Khabbe, Prabh Dasuwal, and Kaushal Chaudhary. The post alleged that Balachauria was associated with their rivals Jaggu Kheti and Lawrence, had provided assistance and shelter to Sidhu Moosewala’s killers, and was handling the killers himself.

The murder has been described as revenge for Sidhu Moosewala’s killing. It is claimed that the act was carried out by Makkhan from Amritsar and “defaulter,” who stated: From today, all players and their parents should tell their children not to play in any team associated with Jaggu Khoti or Harry Tutt, or the result will be the same. The post sharer said: We have no allergy to Kabaddi, but we just don’t want any interference from Kheti or Harry Tutt in Kabaddi.

Rana Balachauria, who had gotten married just 10 days ago and was associated as a promoter with Jalandhar’s Shakarpur Kabaddi team (in addition to being an assistant promoter of this tournament and participating with his own team), his brazen murder has once again raised questions about Punjab’s law and order. According to available information, the accused fled in the vehicle they arrived in after the murder.

AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, during a roadshow in the Tarn Taran by-election in November 2025, had warned gangsters to leave Punjab or be eliminated within 7 days. He had said that those demanding ransom should leave Punjab, or they would not be spared.

Following Rana Balachauria’s murder, opposition parties (Congress, Akali Dal, BJP) have cornered the AAP government and Kejriwal over their claims, stating that their assertions were false and law and order in Punjab has completely collapsed. They said that for the past 3 years, from roads to sports grounds, open shootings are taking place, which is an example of AAP’s failure. They added that even a month after the 7-day deadline, the situation is worsening, and Kejriwal is not coming to Punjab.
