Newspaper Supply Stopped Across Punjab by Police on 2 November

Amid the controversy over Kothi No. 50 in Sector-2, Chandigarh, a dispute has arisen in several areas of Punjab after the police halted the supply of newspapers.

SNPNEWS.IN News (Gurmail Kamboj): Today (November 2, 2025), in the morning, newspaper supply was disrupted on a large scale in various areas of Punjab. Late at night (from approximately 10 PM until morning), Punjab Police stopped and checked newspaper-carrying vehicles in Chandigarh and various districts. As a result, newspapers reached many places hours late or did not reach at all, leaving readers disappointed and distributors angry.

There was a delay in newspaper distribution across the entire state. In many homes, newspapers did not arrive—a situation last seen during the era of terrorism. Distributors complained that the police provided no prior information. Several videos have gone viral on social media, showing police checking newspaper bundles and stopping vehicles.

According to allegations from the government’s political opponents (BJP, Congress), today’s newspapers were set to carry a specific story related to Arvind Kejriwal. This story concerns the transformation of Kothi No. 50 in Sector-2, Chandigarh, into a ‘Sheesh Mahal’ (highly luxurious residence) for Kejriwal, which the BJP has accused the Punjab government of using for corruption and providing undue benefits to specific individuals.

As per the allegations, the story was scheduled to be published in today’s (November 2, 2025) newspapers, and political opponents claim that the Bhagwant Mann government, in an attempt to suppress this news, used the police to stop newspaper distribution. To hide the story, police reportedly stopped newspaper vehicles under the pretext of checking for drugs/weapons. The BJP has called this a ‘silent emergency’ and an attack on press freedom.

The police administration is describing it as part of routine checking. So far, no statement or clarification has been issued by any individual associated with the Punjab government regarding this matter.
