Patiala assault case, Colonel’s wife rejects magisterial inquiry and demands CBI probe.
Patiala assault case: Amidst the demand of the victim’s family for a CBI inquiry and the transfer of SSP Nanak Singh out of the district for justice in the Colonel assault case, Patiala Police has registered a new FIR on the statements of Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath. Not only this, the formation of a high-level special investigation team has also been announced to ensure an impartial investigation. As per the demand of the victim’s family, the district of the police officers kept under suspension has been transferred and departmental action has been initiated against them. The family of Colonel Bath has also been given security cover.

Patiala assault case: Earlier, during a press conference in Chandigarh today, Jaswinder Kaur Bath, wife of Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath, had reiterated her demand for a CBI inquiry into the assault on her husband and son by some officers of the Punjab Police. Bath had accused 12 police officers of the Punjab Police of assaulting her husband and son (Angad Bath). Bath had demanded that an FIR be registered on the complaint of her husband under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the 12 police officers be named and all the accused transferred out of Patiala immediately.

Patiala assault case: Bath had alleged that Patiala SSP Nanak Singh also did not take any action in the matter. She said, “SSP Nanak Singh should be transferred out of Patiala for not cooperating. Because the family requested him to register an FIR several times, but he kept making false allegations due to which the family had to face problems.” Despite calling SSP Nanak Singh to know his side, he could not be contacted.

Patiala assault case: Bath said that the FIR was registered not on the statements of her husband but on the statements of the dhaba owner. “For the last seven days, we have been roaming from door to door for justice. My husband is a uniformed person. We are part of the army family,” he said. Colonel Pushpinder Singh is currently posted at the Army Headquarters in New Delhi. Bath also showed pictures from the day of the alleged attack, in which her husband was injured and her son was bleeding from the face. Bath also claimed to have recorded a video call in which a police officer confessed to the attack.
Patiala assault case: Earlier, the Colonel’s family had met the Punjab Governor and demanded a CBI probe. The family also rejected the orders of a judicial inquiry given by the Punjab government. Meanwhile, the Punjab Police had suspended 12 officers on Monday and started a departmental inquiry against them.

Patiala assault case: Case FIR No. 69 dated 21st March, 2025 was registered on the statements of Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath regarding the unfortunate incident of assault by police personnel on 14-03-2025 at Police Station Civil Lines, Patiala which took place on the night of 13/14th March, which has also registered the name of the police officer of 2025.

Patiala assault case: A spokesperson for the Punjab Police said that instructions have been issued to the DIG Patiala Range to immediately transfer the concerned police officers outside the Patiala district so that an impartial investigation can be conducted. The spokesperson further said that all the 12 concerned police officers have been suspended and departmental action has been initiated against them for severe punishment. Additional Director General of Police, Security, Punjab has been directed to provide adequate security to the family of Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath.

Amidst all this development, a statement has come out from Captain Amarinder Singh’s aide, who said that after the matter gained momentum, we had tried to reach a compromise between both the parties. During which, we had also apologized to the Colonel’s wife on behalf of the Punjab Police employees. It is completely beyond our understanding that the Colonel’s wife would make a video recording like this and make it public. We did not expect her to do this. In fact, Colonel Bath’s wife released a video saying that if the police officers were not guilty, then why were they apologizing?
