Retail fertilizer sellers, frustrated by the illegal practice of tagging unwanted products with DAP and urea fertilizers by fertilizer companies and wholesale dealers, gathered and submitted a memorandum to the Chief Agriculture Officer of Sangrur, declaring they will not purchase fertilizers under such conditions.

(Sangrur, August 11, 2025): Black marketing of DAP and urea fertilizers continues on a large scale across the country. Fertilizer companies and dealers are forcing retail sellers to purchase products like Nano Urea, Nano DAP, Bio Potash, Prom, Sulphur, and Micoraza at rates higher than market value, alongside subsidized fertilizers.

Recently, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan issued strict directives to state Chief Ministers and companies, stating that no company should engage in illegal tagging with subsidized fertilizers. Despite these warnings, tagging continues covertly, causing significant financial losses to farmers and retail traders.

On this issue, retail sellers in Sangrur district held a large gathering today and submitted a memorandum to the Chief Agriculture Officer, demanding an end to illegal tagging and reforms in the fertilizer distribution system. Traders allege that they incur losses of ₹300-400 per sack of DAP and ₹50-60 per sack of urea, which is unsustainable for them.

Retail fertilizer sellers from all markets in Sangrur district participated in the gathering and warned that if the administration fails to stop the illegal tagging, they will surrender their fertilizer licenses and POS machines to the Chief Agriculture Officer and cease operations.
