Seed Amendment Bill 2025: Seed producers to meet JDA on Monday & seed dealers gather at Gidderbaha

Seed producers/dealers are opposing the Punjab government’s amendment to Section 19 of the Seeds Act 1966 under the Seed Amendment Bill 2025. Because with this amendment, the government is considering adding a non-bailable clause to the act.

After the Punjab government’s proposal to amend Section 19 of the Seeds Act 1966 under the Seed Amendment Bill 2025, all the seed sellers of Punjab are looking worried. Traders say that after the implementation of this bill, it will become very difficult for them to do business.

Traders discussed the amendments in the bill during the Zoom meeting and decided that all seed dealers will attend the meeting of traders from across Punjab at Maharaja Agarwal Dharamshala Near Bharu Chowk Gidderbaha on Monday at 2 pm.

Apart from this, the traders decided during the meeting that seed producers from across the state will meet the Punjab Joint Director of Agriculture at Kheti Bhawan Mohali on Monday at 11 am and submit a memorandum regarding the draft of this bill and place their objections before him.

Meanwhile, the traders accused the government and the agriculture department of failing to stop the tagging being done by the fertilizer companies. They said that if action is not taken against the fertilizer mafia, the retail business will come to an end.

The traders said during the meeting that if the government does not accept their demand, they will close their shops for an indefinite period and protest against this black law. If the government still does not accept, all the traders will hand over the keys and licenses of their businesses to the government.

A large number of traders and seed producers from across Punjab attended the meeting and it was decided to jointly protest against the tagging of unnecessary fertilizers with Urea/DAP by the fertilizer companies and the Seed Amendment Bill 2025. The meeting was chaired by Ishwar Garg of Sunam.
