South Africa vs India Test: Pitch Under Scrutiny

The 2-Test match series between South Africa vs India, which began on November 14, has seen the first match at Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata end in a result expected by the 3rd day due to a lifeless pitch.

SNPNEWS.IN News (Gurmail Kamboj): The series of 2 Test matches between South Africa vs India started on November 14. The first match of the series is being played at Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. In the match, South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first.

While batting, the South African team was all out for just 159 runs in 55 overs. Contributions came from A Markram (48-31), W Mulder (51-24), T de Zorzi (55-24), and R Rickelton (22-23). Indian bowlers took wickets: J Bumrah (14-27-5), Kuldeep Yadav (14-36-2), Muhammad Siraj (12-47-2), and Arshad Patel (6-21-1).

After South Africa was all out, the Indian team also failed to perform exceptionally. The entire team was all out for 189 runs in 62.2 overs. Indian batsmen KL Rahul (119-39), W Sundar (82-29), R Pant (24-27), and R Jadeja (45-27) made contributions. Captain Shubman Gill retired out due to injury. South African bowlers took wickets: S Harmer (15.2-30-4), M Jansen (15-35-3), C Bosch (11-32-1), and K Maharaj (16-66-1). Based on the first innings, India gained a lead of 20 runs.

On the second day, after India was all out, South Africa came out to bat and lost 7 wickets for 93 runs in just 35 overs. In the second innings, apart from captain T Bavuma (78-29)*, no other South African batsman crossed 15 runs. Indian bowlers took wickets: Ravindra Jadeja (13-29-4), Kuldeep Yadav (5-12-2), and A Patel (11-30-1).

In the first two days of the match, only 441 runs were scored in 162.2 overs, and 27 wickets fell, after which the pitch has come under scrutiny, especially during South Africa’s second innings where the ball stayed low and provided uneven bounce, leading to dissatisfaction among cricket fans regarding the pitch.
