10 arrested for cheating a person from Sunam of Rs 17.9 crore in the name of investment.

Sangrur police have arrested 10 persons for allegedly ‘cheating’ Sunam resident Karanvir Kansal of Rs 17.93 lakh and have also recovered 17 mobile phone sets, six cheque books of different banks, five ATM cards and a passport from their possession.
The accused ‘cheated’ Karanvir Kansal on the pretext of investing his money in the stock market through the ‘fake trading platform’, AngelPro app.
Karanvir Kansal lodged a complaint at the Cyber Crime Police Station, Sangrur, which registered an FIR under sections 318 (4), 61 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Sangrur SP (HQ) Dilpreet Singh told the media that the five accused are residents of Sri Ganganagar, Abohar, Ludhiana, Patna and Faridabad respectively, two are from Gujarat and three from UP and the accused were running their fraud business from a rented accommodation in Mohali from where they were arrested.
On the modus operandi of the gang, the SP said that the gang took Karanvir Kansal into confidence through a WhatsApp group to invest his money in the share market. From January to February, they deposited his money in different bank accounts.
However, when Karanvir Kansal decided to withdraw his money from the app, he could not do so, he added, adding that the fraudulent app always showed his deposit amount of Rs 17.93 lakh along with a profit of Rs 27 lakh. The SP said that investigations are on to find out how many people have fallen prey to their trap.
