For the past few days, discussions about a halwai (sweet shop owner) being held hostage and defrauded of Rs 2 lakh have been circulating in Sunam and on social media. In this case, the victim’s brother has lodged an FIR with the police.

According to the complainant, Amrik Singh, son of Khoob Singh, he and his brother Karam Singh were at their shop on 4-9-2025. While Karam Singh was weighing the laddoos, Geetu stepped outside the shop, talking on the phone.
Meanwhile, three individuals arrived at the shop in a Car with the registration number CH-01-AK-1813. They shut the shop’s shutter, held the both brothers hostage, and claimed to be from the Food Safety Department.
They accused the both brothers of preparing counterfeit sweets and threatened to take action against them. They demanded Rs 35,0000 to avoid legal action.
Amrik Singh alleged that both brothers were frightened, and Karam Singh negotiated with the individuals, eventually settling the matter for Rs 2 lakh. This amount was reportedly handed over to Vijaypal Singh Geetu, who took it to pass on to the unidentified individuals.
