Sunam: Stray Dog Rampage Is Being Seen In The City, 5-6 People Were Injured By Dogs Today

Sunam Manish Kumar was bitten by a stray dog in ITI Chowk Sunam, after which the victim said that he would seek compensation from the Municipal Council as per the orders of the High Court.

Sunam Shaheed Udham Singh Wala 20 July 2025: The rampage of stray dogs and animals continues throughout the country. Often some person around us becomes a victim of stray dogs. After which he has to seek medical help from a private or government hospital. Many times such cases are seen where the elderly and children become the targets of stray dogs, during which they are seriously injured by the dogs. The government and administration officials should pay attention to implementing the dog sterilization program quickly so that the number of stray dogs can be reduced.

Today, 5-6 incidents of stray dog bites were seen in Sunam. According to the information, Manish Kumar has received information about being bitten by a stray dog in (ITI Chowk). During the conversation after receiving medical assistance from the government hospital, Manish Kumar said that today many other people were also bitten by dogs in ITI Chowk Sunam.

When he contacted the Sunam Municipal Council office to get information about the sterilization of stray dogs in this regard, he had to face only humiliation. He said that now he will demand compensation from the Sunam Municipal Council according to the orders of the High Court.

In another case, a woman named Pinky was bitten by a stray dog entering her house in front of the Sunam Civil Court. She is receiving medical assistance from a private hospital. Apart from this, there are reports of 3-4 other people being injured due to stray dogs.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court’s judgment regarding compensation in cases of stray dog bites.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on November 14, 2023, delivered an important judgment regarding compensation in cases of stray dog bites. The court ordered that in cases of stray dog bites, the victim should be given a minimum compensation of Rs 10,000 per tooth mark and if the flesh is separated from the skin, then a minimum compensation of Rs 20,000 for a wound of 0.2 cm.

The court directed the government to constitute committees headed by the District Deputy Commissioner in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, which will determine the compensation in such cases. These committees will decide on the compensation within four months of the claims.

The government has been given the primary responsibility of paying compensation, and it can also recover it from the harming agencies or individuals. The purpose of this judgment is to ensure prompt and fair compensation to the victims due to attacks by stray animals.
