Telangana; Death Toll In Pharmaceutical Factory Accident Crosses 40

A massive explosion occurred at the Sigachi Industries pharmaceutical company’s plant in Pashamillaram in Sangareddy district of Telangana at around 9:30 am on June 30.

The blast, suspected to be caused by a pressure build-up or chemical reaction in a spray dryer, killed at least 40 people, 37 bodies were pulled from the rubble and three died in hospital.

The company has officially admitted that 143 workers were present in the accident that took place 24 hours ago, out of which 57 people have been safely evacuated and 46 are undergoing treatment.

The blast was so powerful that some workers were thrown up to 100 meters away and a three-storey building collapsed, causing fire to spread to adjacent buildings.

NDRF, SDRF and fire services personnel continued their rescue operations at the site of the accident despite heavy rain.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced a compensation of ₹1 crore for the families of the deceased and ₹10 lakh for those seriously injured. A five-member panel is probing the accident, with initial reports pointing to a dryer malfunction or fine chemical dust as possible causes.

The company has shut down the plant for 90 days due to the extensive damage. The area has a history of similar incidents in the past, raising concerns about safety lapses. FOLLOW US ON FACBOOK
