At 11:35 in the corridor of the Supreme Court of India, 71-year-old lawyer Rakesh Kishore tried to throw a shoe at the Honorable CJI B R Gavai during the court proceedings. After the incident, the Chief Justice asked the lawyers and security personnel present in the corridor to work peacefully without any fear or intimidation, “These things do not matter to me.”

The lawyers present in the corridor told the media that when the joint bench of the CJI and Justice Vinod Chandran was hearing a case, the accused lawyer tried to throw his shoe at the CJI, the security forces stopped him and arrested him. After this incident, the accused lawyer started shouting slogans, “Hindustan will not tolerate insults to Sanatan Dharma.”

According to the information received, the accused lawyer is a resident of Mayur Bihar, Delhi and was a member of the Bar Association since 2011, whose license was immediately canceled by the Bar Association.

After questioning the accused lawyer, he was released on the advice of the CJI. The accused told during questioning that he was angry with the CJI because on September 16, the petition filed for the restoration of a broken idol in a temple of Lord Vishnu located in Khujrao, Madhya Pradesh was rejected by the CJI and commented, “Go and tell God, he will do the same, if you are a devotee of Lord Vishnu, then pray.” The CJI rejected the petition and said that this petition has been filed only to gain publicity. After a controversy arose on this issue, the CJI said that he respects all religions, his comment has been misrepresented.

The incident of a lawyer trying to throw a shoe at the CJI in this way has raised many questions, a huge number of people criticizing and supporting this incident were seen on social media. Many people are blaming the policies of the central government and the BJP, the game of giving religious colour to every issue and the mental poison that has been instilled in the people of the country for the last decade. The central government and the BJP are being blamed for weakening the supreme institutions of the country.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta condemned the incident and defined such an act as misinformation and misinformation spread on social media and an attempt to gain cheap popularity.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned the incident and spoke to the CJI over the phone. The opposition parties called such incidents shameful for the country and said that such incidents show how hatred and bigotry have spread in every section of the society.
