The Punjab Chief Minister Inaugurated School Of Eminence At Chhajli In Sangrur On Today

Jaswinder Singh Longowal, the president of BKU Azad who was among those leading the stir, questioned the Bhagwant Mann-led government over the forcible removal of protesters from the Shambhu and Khanauri borders.

As protesting farmers under the banner of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) staged an agitation against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government at Chhajli in Sangrur district, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inaugurated a School of Eminence in the village Tuesday morning.

The chief minister’s helicopter landed on the school ground even as the farmers raised slogans like “Bhagwant Mann di Sarkar murdabad” and “Punjab Sarkar murdabad.” Heavy police presence was deployed to prevent the agitators from marching towards the school.

Mann interacted with the students at the school and saw the exhibition they put up on the campus. Under the AAP government’s flagship Schools of Eminence (SoE) project, 118 government schools are being upgraded into state-of-the-art schools from Class IX to XII based on the Delhi AAP government’s education model.

Later, Mann inaugurated an auditorium built at a cost of Rs 4.16 crore at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) in Sangrur.

Speaking about the protest, Jaswinder Singh Longowal, president of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Azad, a KMM constituent, told The Indian Express, “KMM has decided to question AAP ministers, legislators and leaders at every public event. So, farmers from BKU Azad and BKU Sidhupur reached the village despite police efforts to block our entry.

We wanted to question the CM, but we were neither allowed inside the venue, nor did he step out to meet us. Hence, we continued our protest as long as he was inside.”
