The Punjab government takes major action after arrest of 4 employees for demanding Rs 1 lakh bribe from minor’s family

SNPNEWS.IN: The Punjab government suspended Fazilka Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Varinder Singh Brar on May 28, 2025, following the arrest of four police officers from the Cyber Crime Police Station in Fazilka.
The officers, including Inspector Manjeet Singh (SHO), Senior Constable Rajpal, Senior Constable Shinder Pal, and Senior Constable Sumeet Kumar, were arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on May 27, 2025, for allegedly extorting ₹1 lakh from the family of a 17-year-old boy.
The minor had inadvertently accessed adult content and forwarded a pornographic video, leading to a cybercrime case. The officers reportedly demanded the bribe to avoid filing a formal First Information Report (FIR) against the boy.

The case came to light after the boy’s father, Dharminder Singh, provided evidence of the bribe demands to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who ordered a swift investigation.
The suspension of SSP Brar was due to his alleged failure to curb corruption within his jurisdiction, reflecting the Punjab government’s zero-tolerance policy toward corruption.
Regarding this matter, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that whether small or big, one’s own or unknown, no one will be spared in the matter of corruption.
