Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that it has come to his notice that the vendors are making the sale of Biostimulants and Nano fertilizers conditional on the sale of UREA DAP to the farmers.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has directed the Chief Ministers of all the states and Union Territories of the country to immediately stop the forced sale of nano-fertilizers and biostimulants to the farmers by the retailers.
Resolving the complaints received, he said that he has received information that the retailers are making the sale of these fertilizers conditional on the sale of subsidized conventional fertilizers like urea and DAP.
In a letter to all Chief Ministers dated July 13, 2025, Chouhan asserted that such “forced tagging” is illegal under the Fertilizers (Control) Order, 1985 and the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. He urged for strict legal action including cancellation of licenses of violators and FIR to ensure punishment.
In fact, there is a huge demand for UREA and DAP across the country. Taking advantage of which, fertilizer manufacturing companies are forcibly tagging non-essential fertilizers like Bio-Potash, Micoraza, NPK, Prom, Biostimulants, Nano DAP/UREA to retailers at double the market price with both fertilizers. The retailers then force farmers to buy the same fertilizers. If agriculture is to be saved, there is a dire need to tighten the noose on this illegal loot.
