Many areas in the United States (USA), including Western Washington State, are reeling under the impact of severe floods.
SNPNEWS.IN News (Gurmail Kamboj): December 13, 2025 – In the world’s most developed country, the United States (USA), devastating floods have caused widespread destruction in the Pacific Northwest region, particularly in Western Washington State.
On December 8, the administration warned of rising water levels in rivers due to an atmospheric river (a wave of moisture coming from the Pacific Ocean) and issued alerts for lakhs of people to move from affected areas to safer locations.
In Washington, evacuation orders were issued for approximately 100,000 people, especially those living in the Skagit Valley, Snohomish River, and Mount Vernon areas. Governor Bob Ferguson declared a statewide emergency on December 10 and deployed the National Guard. (reuters.com)
In the past few days, rainfall ranging from 5 to 10 inches has occurred, leading to up to 1 foot of rain in the Cascade Mountains within 72 hours. More rain is expected to continue until December 12-13. The Snohomish River has broken its record by reaching 34 feet (previous record was 33.5 feet). The Skagit, Snoqualmie, and Cedar Rivers are also near record levels.

In the affected areas, shops, roads, and rail lines have been closed. Highways between British Columbia (Canada) are shut down, and there are reports of landslides in several places. Electricity has been cut off in flood-hit areas, and rescue operations are ongoing. So far, no deaths have been reported, but the situation is out of control.
