Priyansh Arya, playing in his first season of the IPL, smashed a century in just 39 balls before departing for 103. This was the 4th fastest hundred in the IPL.
A late Mahendra Singh Dhoni blitz could not bring victory for the Chennai Super Kings as the Punjab Kings returned to winning ways with a 18-run victory on Tuesday. There was some drama in the chase as CSK opted to retire hurt half centurion Devon Conway for 69 runs — a retired hurt that came in the middle of two sixes from Dhoni.
Dhoni had joined Conway in the middle when Chennai Super Kings needed 59 runs off 18 balls.
Chennai Super Kings have now slumped to their fourth successive defeat in IPL 2025 after winning the first game of the season against Mumbai Indians.
Earlier on Tuesday, Priyansh Arya, playing in his first season of the IPL, smashed a century in just 39 balls before departing for 103 as the Punjab Kings scored 219/6. Arya smashed the 4th fastest hundred in the IPL.
Shashank Singh also scored a half century at the end of the innings to take Punjab over the 200-run mark. While Arya was smashing CSK bowlers from the first over itself, Punjab Kings lost crucial wickets regularly to end the powerplay with the score reading 75/3.
Punjab Kings had won the toss and Shreyas Iyer opted to bat first against Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League 2025 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh on Tuesday.
Though Punjab lost their previous encounter against Rajasthan Royals, they have played some good cricket in the tournament so far. They have looked well-rounded both in the bowling and the batting departments.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, Chennai Super Kings captain speaks after the game ends in another defeat.
Asked about the dropped catches and what has gone wrong for CSK this season, he said: “In the last four games, that is the only point of difference. It has been very critical.
Every time we are dropping the catch, the same batter is adding 20-25-30 runs extra. If you leave out the RCB game, the last three chases, it was a matter of one or two or maybe three hits. Sometimes you have to appreciate the way Priyansh played. He took his chances. It was high-risk batting and it came off really well for him.
Even though we were taking wickets, they kept the momentum going.10-15 (less we could have conceded), if we would have executed well, and at the end of the day, it also comes down to the dropped catches. Today was spot-on from a batting perspective.
This is what we wanted. Our best batters, who can play pace very well, played up the order and had a brilliant powerplay. It was a better, improved performance and many positives. Want to take some positives out of it, and we were two or three hits away (from winning). He (Conway) is more of a timer of the ball, very useful up the order. When you have Jaddu, known for that (finishing) role particularly, you expect that.
When you know the batter is struggling…initially he (Conway) was still timing it well. We waited and waited until (he started struggling). Told the guys we have to enjoy the fielding. If you are nervous, you will drop some catches. If you look to be a standout fielder, the first catch taken, the first boundary saved helps everyone. Batting and bowling, you can have a bad day, but in fielding, that is something we are trying to work on, but right now, it is not happening.”
