Drug Case 2025, Constable & His Accomplice Arrested with 46.91 lakh hawala Money

The ongoing campaign against drug trafficking in Punjab has achieved yet another major success. Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted the international narco-hawala network and arrested the police constable Navjot Singh posted in Ludhiana and his partner Harmeet, a resident of Sadar Amritsar. Both the accused used to smuggle drugs by bringing a large amount of money into India through hawala.

Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that the Cheharta police station has recovered a large amount of heroin from Anil Saini, a resident of Bhiwani in Haryana, who was recently staying in Gurgaon. In the same case, while investigating further links, both the accused related to Hawala were arrested. The initial investigation by the police revealed that this network was being operated from abroad.

The accused used to exchange money by taking a photo of Rs 10 and Rs 20 currency note numbers and verifying the same through social media apps. “During interrogation of Anil Saini, Navjot Singh, and Harmeet Singh, it was revealed that they were in contact with USA-based drug smuggler Joban Kaler and gangster Gopi Chhogawan, who were behind the entire cartel,” the police commissioner said. With this, the city police have successfully dismantled the nexus between narcotics and hawala money.

The arrested constable and his accomplice were in touch with US-based notorious drug trafficker Joban Kaler and Amritsar rural gangster Gopi Chogawan. These two were running a whole network of funding through drugs and hawala sitting abroad, in which some people sitting inside Punjab were playing an active role.

A remittance amount of 46.91 lakh rupees was recovered

During the arrest, the police also recovered ₹46.91 lakh in cash from the possession of the accused. DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav has confirmed that this money was sent to India through Hawala channel through Dubai and it was to be used in the purchase and sale of drugs and network operations.

A case was registered under the NDPS Act

In this regard, a case has been registered under the NDPS Act at Cheharta police station. Police are investigating to establish backward and forward links of this network. The police officer said that to reach the root of this whole system, they are connecting link to link of financial transactions. Along with the seizure of Hawala Dhan, other links are also being exposed so that the entire ecosystem that supports drug trafficking can be dismantled.
