Realising the gravity of this terror attack, the Cabinet Committee on Security Affairs (CCS) decided on the following measures-

1) The Indus Water Treaty of 1960 will be suspended with immediate effect, until Pakistan credibly and irrevocably renounces its support for cross-border terrorism.

2) Integrated Checkpost Attari will be closed with immediate effect. Those who have crossed the border with legitimate means can return through that route before 1 May 2025.

3) Pakistani nationals will not be allowed to travel to India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme. Any SPES visa issued to Pakistani nationals in the past will be deemed to have been cancelled. Any Pakistani national currently present in India under a SPES visa has 48 hours to leave India.

The US has issued a ‘do not travel’ advisory for its citizens after “terrorist attacks” in Jammu & Kashmir and fears of possible “violent civil unrest” within 10 km of the India-Pakistan border.

The advisory for all US citizens was issued on Wednesday, a day after militants opened fire in Kashmir’s Pahalgam, killing 26 people, most of them tourists, in the deadliest attack in the valley since the Pulwama attack in 2019.

“Terrorist attacks and violent civil unrest are possible in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. This is a warning to citizens visiting the tourist destinations of Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam in the Kashmir Valley.
