On June 28, 2025, a suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a military convoy in North Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, killing 16 Pakistani soldiers and injuring over two dozen people, including 10 military personnel and 19 civilians.
The blast also caused the roofs of two nearby houses to collapse, injuring six children. The attack was claimed by the Hafiz Gul Bahadur faction of the Pakistani Taliban (TTP).
Pakistan has seen a surge in violence in its border regions since the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan in 2021, with over 290 security personnel killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan in 2025, according to an AFP tally.
