Moonak, June 30: Deputy Commissioner Sangrur Shri Sandeep Rishi and District Police Chief Shri Sartaj Singh Chahal today reviewed the condition of Ghaggar river in Moonak area to prevent possible floods.

On this occasion, they visited various places around Ghaggar including the bridge of Ghaggar river at Makrour Sahib, Tohana Road.

Talking to the media on this occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that currently the water level in the Ghaggar river at Khanauri is 730 feet and the danger mark starts at 748 feet. There is no flood-related situation at present.

Continuous monitoring is being done with the help of various departments and villagers, 50,000 bags filled with sand; work of filling more bags is in progress.

The district administration is continuously monitoring the water level in the Ghaggar river. The canal department, revenue department, police and other departments are continuously monitoring with the cooperation of the villagers.

The Deputy Commissioner said that below Makrour Sahib, the width of the river decreases and the water pressure increases, due to which there have been breaches in the river in the past.

The Punjab government has widened and strengthened the banks of the river, due to which the possibility of breach has reduced, and secondly, if necessary, machinery can run easily on the river bank.

The district administration has kept 50 thousand bags of sand ready and the work of filling more bags is in progress.

Along with this, complete arrangements have also been made for iron nets. He said that as soon as any alert regarding flood is received, the villagers will be shifted to safe places immediately.

The Deputy Commissioner said that control rooms have been set up in the district. List of relief camps, communication plan, list of hot spot places have also been prepared. Similarly, the Chief Agriculture Officer and Deputy Director Animal Husbandry Department have been asked to arrange green and dry fodder for the animals.

On this occasion, District Police Chief Mr. Sartaj Singh Chahal said that the police is ready to deal with any kind of situation.

On this occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner General Amit Bambi, SDM Lehra Suba Singh along with officers of various departments were present.
