
Traders are opposing the Punjab government’s amendment to Section 19 of the Seed Act 1966 under the Seed Amendment Bill 2025. Because with this amendment, the government is considering adding a non-bailable clause to the Act.
After the Punjab government’s proposal to amend Section 19 of the Seed Act 1966 under the Seed Amendment Bill 2025, all the seed sellers of Punjab are looking worried. Traders say that after the implementation of this bill, it will become very difficult for them to do business.
The traders discussed the amendments in the bill during the Zoom meeting and decided that all the traders will come together and attend the meeting of traders from across Punjab at Gidderbaha on Monday.
The traders decided during the meeting that the seed producers will meet the Joint Director of Agriculture Punjab on Monday and submit a memorandum regarding the draft of this bill and place their objections before him.
Meanwhile, the traders accused the government and the agriculture department of failing to stop the tagging being done by the fertilizer companies. They said that if action is not taken against the fertilizer mafia, the retail business will end.
The traders said during the meeting that if the government does not accept their demand, they will close their shops for an indefinite period and protest against this black law.If the government still does not accept, all the traders will hand over the keys and licenses of their businesses to the government.
A large number of traders and seed producers from across Punjab attended the meeting and it was decided to unite and protest against the tagging of unnecessary fertilizers with Urea/DAP by fertilizer companies and the Seed Amendment Bill 2025. The meeting was chaired by Ishwar Garg of Sunam.
