An Amritdhari Sikh girl, Gurpreet Kaur, was stopped from entering the examination centre for wearing Sikh kakars (kada and kirpan) during the civil judge exam in Jaipur, Rajasthan on July 27, 2025.

The incident is being considered a violation of the Constitution and anti-Sikh discrimination. Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami strongly condemned it and demanded action against the guilty officials.

He also demanded the central government to enact a law for the protection of Sikh kakars and give Gurpreet Kaur a chance to appear for the exam. The SGPC is planning to send a delegation to hold talks with the Rajasthan government soon.

Even before this, in June 2023, another Sikh girl, Armanjot Kaur, was stopped from appearing in a judicial examination in Jodhpur due to Sikh taunts, a legal battle for which is ongoing in the Rajasthan High Court. The Sikh community and organizations have appealed for strict steps to stop this repeated discrimination.
