Vigilance Bureau raids house of Ranjit Singh Gill, a prominent real estate businessman from Kharar, Punjab

(2 August 2025 SNPNEWS.IN): Ranjit Singh Gill, a prominent real estate businessman from Kharar, Punjab and former leader of Shiromani Akali Dal, announced his joining of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on August 1, 2025. The event took place in the presence of Haryana Chief Minister Naib Saini, who inducted Gill into the party. Gill expressed faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and BJP’s policies and said that he will work to strengthen the party in Punjab.
Earlier, Gill was considered close to Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal, but he recently resigned from the primary membership of the party (alleging that the party was giving preference to outsiders at the expense of loyal party workers). Gill had contested the last Punjab assembly elections on an Akali Dal ticket from Kharar seat, where he lost to Aam Aadmi Party candidate Gagan Anmol Mann.
Recently, after AAP MLA Gagan Anmol Mann resigned from Kharar, there was talk that Gill was going to join AAP and contest the by-election from Kharar. But after Gagan Anmol Mann withdrew her resignation, these speculations came to an end.
However, an interesting development took place today when within 12 hours of Gill joining the BJP, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau raided his Chandigarh residence, sparking speculation of vendetta in political circles. The Vigilance Department has not yet issued an official statement on the raid, but questions are being raised about the timing of the raid.
The BJP termed the Vigilance Bureau’s raid as “political vendetta”, while Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Vigilance sources claimed that the raid was part of an investigation into the disproportionate assets case involving senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia. The probe is looking into property transactions between Majithia and Gill, including both named and benami properties.
Earlier, on December 1, 2022, the IT department had raided Ranjit Singh Gill’s house in Sector 2, Chandigarh and the office of Gillco Valley. Cash and documents were recovered in this raid, but the department did not make the details of this operation public.
