Yemen: Houthi Rebel Group’s Prime Minister and Several Ministers Killed by IsraelIn a recent attack, Israel has killed the Prime Minister and several ministers of the Houthi rebel group, which controls northern Yemen. Israel cited missile and drone attacks by the Houthi group on Israel as the reason for the strike.
SNPNEWS.IN News Update: On August 28, 2025, Israel carried out a major attack on Yemen. The attack resulted in the deaths of the Houthi rebel group’s Prime Minister, Ahmad al-Rahawi (who was appointed as Prime Minister in Houthi-controlled areas in 2024), along with several other ministers.
Earlier, on August 24, 2025, a previous attack targeting the presidential palace had killed 10 people and injured 90.
The Houthis confirmed that al-Rahawi and “several” other ministers were present at a workshop when an Israeli airstrike killed them. The Houthis did not provide specific details on the number of casualties. The attack damaged the presidential complex, making it difficult for rescue teams to recover bodies from the debris.
Houthis Spokesperson Mahdi al-Mashat, the Chairman of the Supreme Political Council, stated in a video message, “We will take revenge and strive to achieve victory from these wounds.”

The Houthis declared that they would continue their military operations and issued a warning of missile attacks on Israel. Mahdi al-Mashat also announced that Muhammad Ahmad Miftah, previously the Deputy Prime Minister, has been appointed as the new Prime Minister following Ahmad al-Rahawi’s death.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed via a Twitter post that they had killed Houthi Prime Minister Ahmad al-Rahawi and other senior officials. Israel stated that the attack targeted the Houthi group’s military infrastructure and leadership, similar to actions taken against Hezbollah, Hamas, and Islamic Jihad. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said the operation was necessary to counter Houthi attacks.
