Medical College Will Not Be Built At Mastuana Sahib

In 2022, the Punjab government laid the foundation stone for a medical college to be constructed at a cost of 700 crore rupees. However, due to local opposition and a legal dispute between the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Sant Attar Singh Gursagar Mastuana Sahib Trust, the project could not commence.

SNPNEWS.IN News Update, Sep 25: In 2022, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann laid the foundation stone for a medical college to be built on 25 acres of land at Gurdwara Mastuana Sahib, with an estimated cost of 700 crore rupees. The Sant Attar Singh Gursagar Mastuana Sahib Trust had donated the 25 acres of land, and the Chief Minister had announced that the medical college would be completed and dedicated to the people of the area by the end of 2023.

However, continuous opposition from local residents and certain religious organizations, along with a legal dispute between the SGPC and the Sant Attar Singh Gursagar Mastuana Sahib Trust, prevented the project from starting. The SGPC claimed ownership of the land and stated that the registry could not be transferred without their consent.

The matter reached the courts. To resolve the dispute, on September 16, 2025, the Punjab government withdrew the registry of the 25 acres of land designated for the Sant Baba Attar Singh State Institute of Medical Sciences at Mastuana Sahib in Sangrur district. This land, originally donated by Gurdwara Sachkhand Angitha Sahib, has now been re-registered in the name of the Gurdwara. As a result, the plan to build a medical college at this location has been abandoned.

According to sources, the government is now planning to construct the medical college on land belonging to the Horticulture Department in the nearby village of Kheri in the district.
