Pakistan PM Claims India’s 7 Jets Turned Into Scrap

In his speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 26, 2025, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif claimed that Pakistani fighter jets destroyed 7 Indian fighter jets during a conflict with India in May 2025.

SNPNEWS.IN News Update, Sep 25: Following the conflict between India and Pakistan in May 2025, both countries have frequently made public claims of inflicting greater damage on each other. In his UNGA speech on September 26, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif claimed that Pakistan destroyed 7 Indian fighter jets during the conflict. Previously, Pakistan had claimed to have shot down a Rafale jet or 5 jets at different times. However, Pakistan has consistently failed to provide evidence, such as wreckage or proof of the jets being downed.

In April 2025, a terrorist attack in Pahalgam (Jammu & Kashmir) killed 25 tourists and one local. In response, India linked the attack to Pakistan-backed terrorists and launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ on May 7, 2025, targeting 9 terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir through airstrikes, resulting in over 100 terrorists being killed.

Infuriated by this action, Pakistan attempted, unsuccessfully, to carry out large-scale drone attacks in India’s Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir and violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC). In retaliation, India targeted and damaged several Pakistani airbases. Both countries agreed to a ceasefire on May 10, 2025.

In his UN speech, Sharif also accused India of violating the Indus Water Treaty (IWT), which India had suspended on the condition of curbing cross-border terrorism. He praised U.S. President Donald Trump and announced his nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.

On the same day, U.S. President Donald Trump met with Sharif and Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir at the White House, describing them as “great leaders.” This meeting took place hours before Sharif’s speech.

India dismissed Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s UNGA claim of shooting down 7 Indian fighter jets as “baseless” and “false.” In a statement issued on September 26, 2025, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson called Pakistan’s claim “misleading and part of propaganda.”

India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar accused Pakistan of supporting terrorism and creating instability in Kashmir. Responding at the UN, he stated that Pakistan’s claims were an “attempt to mislead the international community.”
