Violent incidents targeting Indian (especially Punjabi) origin businessmen in Canada are on the rise, involving gang extortion, drug trafficking, and hate crimes.

Canada: 2 Indian-Origin Businessmen Murdered in 1 Week

SNPNEWS.IN News (Gurmail Kamboj): Canada, once praised as the epitome of law and order, has seen its conditions become extremely alarming and terrifying in recent years. A series of violent incidents, gang extortion, drug trafficking, and hate crimes is clearly visible.

In Canada, besides robberies, gang wars, drug trafficking, and hatred against immigrants, a series of murders of immigrant Indian businessmen has been occurring for some time, pointing to a highly concerning situation.

On October 19, 2025, in the downtown area of Edmonton, near 109 Street and 100 Avenue (near The Common Restaurant), a 55-year-old immigrant Indian businessman (Arvi Singh Sagoo), who was heading to his car with his female friend after dinner, got into a dispute with a man named Kyle Papin (40 years old). Kyle severely injured him. Arvi’s friend called 911 to report the altercation, after which the businessman was admitted to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Police arrested the accused Kyle and presented him in court. The entire case is being linked to racism.

● In April, a 21-year-old Indian student Harsimrat Randhawa died after being hit by a stray bullet while standing at a bus stop in Hamilton, Ontario.

● In October 2025, there was a shooting at the Canada-based home of Punjabi singer Channi Nattan. The case is linked to extortion, and the perpetrators themselves claimed responsibility.

● Kapil Sharma’s cafe, located in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada (at 85 Avenue and 120 Street), was targeted on July 9, August 7, and October 16. This attack was also attributed to a notorious Indian gang.

● Popular Punjabi singer Teji Kahlon (also spelled Teji Kahlon) was shot in the stomach and is currently admitted to the hospital. This was a targeted gang war incident.

On October 27, in Abbotsford, British Columbia, in the 31300 block of Ridgeview Drive, outside his home (near Ridgeview and Summit Drive), a 68-year-old businessman (Darshan Singh Sahsi) was shot dead while sitting in his car. This incident is being linked to illegal extortion. The murder is being connected to a notorious gang from India (Punjab). Police have termed it a targeted killing, and the investigation is ongoing. Indian authorities are in contact with Canadian police. No arrests have been made in this case so far.
