The result of Tarn Taran by-election was positive for both the ruling party AAP (winner) and Akali Dal, a big setback for Congress.
SNPNEWS.IN News (Gurmail Kamboj): The Tarn Taran by-election (which was being held after the death of AAP MLA Dr. Kashmir Singh Sohal) has fallen to the ruling party AAP. AAP candidate Harmeet Singh Sandhu defeated Akali Dal Badal’s candidate Bibi Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa by 12079 votes.
In the political circles, the main contest in the Tarn Taran by-election was expected to be between Waris Punjab’s (Amritpal Singh) candidate Mandeep Singh and AAP candidate Sandhu, which turned out to be wrong as Mandeep Singh got 19580 votes while AAP candidate Sandhu got 42619 votes and Akali Dal candidate Bibi Randhawa got 30540 votes. Apart from this, Congress candidate Karanvir Singh got 15045 votes and BJP candidate Harjit Singh Sandhu got 6206 votes. 117713 voters used their votes in this election.

After the election results, Waris Punjab’s (Amritpal Singh) candidate Mandeep Singh, while talking to a private channel, admitted his defeat and said that the defeat of Akali Dal Badal’s candidate Bibi Randhawa was due to her contesting the election and not because of AAP’s actions. He said that before the elections, a journalist had asked me about the possibility of winning, so I had said that day too, if I was victorious, then both Akali Dal Badal and AAP would come second or third.
This by-election was being seen as a semi-final before the 2027 assembly elections, which the ruling party won by getting former Akali Dal candidate and 3-time MLA Harmeet Singh Sandhu to join the party. This election will also prove to be a lifeline for the marginalized Akali Dal Badal because its candidate Bibi Randhawa has come second despite internal strife and opposition to the party among the people.
