Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado (who was officially awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize) presented her Nobel Peace Prize medal to Donald Trump during a meeting at the White House.
SNPNEWS.IN News (Gurmail Kamboj): American businessman and President Donald Trump has often appeared claiming he is worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize. While his wish has not been fulfilled officially, he has now become capable of finding some consolation by holding the prize’s medal in his hand.
On January 15, 2026, Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado (officially the recipient of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize) presented her Nobel medal to Trump during a meeting at the White House.
This was a completely symbolic gesture, as she recognized it as appreciation for Trump’s “principled and decisive action” toward freedom and democracy in Venezuela (especially following the U.S. military action that removed President Nicolas Maduro). Trump accepted it and posted on his Truth Social that it was a “wonderful gesture of mutual respect.” The White House also shared a photo showing Trump holding the medal displayed in a large frame.

Donald Trump’s Demands for the Nobel Peace Prize:
● Donald Trump has expressed his desire or demand for the Nobel Peace Prize multiple times, especially during both of his terms.
● However, the Nobel Committee has never supported Trump’s demands.
● During his first term (2018-2020), after talks with North Korea and the Abraham Accords, Trump repeatedly said he was deserving of it. He often trolled Barack Obama, saying Obama received it “for doing nothing,” while he was never awarded it. Some Norwegian leaders even nominated him, but the prize remained out of reach for Trump.
● Before the 2020 elections, Trump raised it in his campaign, stating he “deserves” it.
● After the start of his second term in January 2025, he repeatedly claimed he had “ended 7-8 wars” (such as ceasefires in Israel-Hamas, Russia-Ukraine, India-Pakistan, etc.) and that he should receive the Nobel. Trump often says: “They will never give me a Nobel Peace Prize. It’s too bad. I deserve it.
● “February 2025: In a meeting with Benjamin Netanyahu, he said he deserves it but won’t get it.
● August-September 2025: At the UN General Assembly and elsewhere, he said “Everyone says I should get the Nobel Peace Prize” and “I ended seven wars.”
● Summer 2025: He called Norway’s Finance Minister to discuss the Nobel (linking it to tariffs).
● Before October 2025 Nobel announcement: Trump demanded it many times, but it went to María Corina Machado. Even afterward, he insisted he deserves it.
After María gifted the medal to Trump, discussions intensified about whether a Nobel winner can share the prize with someone else or if it can be transferred/canceled.
Amid these discussions, the Nobel Committee clearly stated: The Nobel Prize cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred. It will always remain in the name of María Corina Machado (2025 winner). Trump has not officially become a Nobel laureate. Trump has the physical medal, but officially, he is not a Nobel Peace Prize winner. This has certainly been a moment that partially fulfills his long-standing wish!
Earlier, FIFA’s Award (FIFA Peace Prize – Football Unites the World): This is a new award launched by FIFA in 2025. It was presented on December 5, 2025, in Washington DC during the 2026 FIFA World Cup final draw by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, honoring U.S. President Donald Trump. Trump called it “one of the greatest honors of my life” and said he has made the world safer.
This award sparked controversy after being given to Trump: Many human rights groups (like Human Rights Watch, FairSquare) called it a violation of FIFA’s neutrality. There was no transparency in the selection process—no details on nominations, committee, or criteria. Infantino had personally supported Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, making it seem like “political flattery.” Many media outlets and fans labeled it “meaningless,” “parody,” or “shameful,” especially given Trump’s policies and controversies. As of January 2026, FIFA has no plans to revoke or change the award.
