Sangrur: The death of police employee and her mother, who were found burnt after the car collided with a tree on Sulhar Gharat Canal Road in Bhawanigarh were Killed by her brother
SNPNEWS.IN News (Gurmail Kamboj): On January 17, in the early morning hours near the Sangrur-Patiala highway on the canal road at Sulhar Gharat in Bhawanigarh, a Swift car collided with a tree and caught fire, resulting in the driver and her mother being burnt alive. The victims, who were recovered after the fire, were identified as Punjab Police Constable (CID) Sarabjit Kaur (approximately 35 years old) and her mother Inderpreet Kaur (resident of Maura/Moran village, Sangrur). The initial investigation treated it as a case of fog causing the accident or the car catching fire after colliding with a tree.
However, after police investigation, it was revealed that this was not an accident but a double murder. A Punjab Police constable, Gurpreet Singh (brother of Sarabjit Kaur), has been arrested in this case. According to information received, he killed his mother and sister and then set the car on fire to cover it up as an accident. Sangrur Police used forensic teams and CCTV footage to complete the investigation.

Constable Gurpreet Singh, posted at Sadar Police Station Sangrur, murdered the deceased Sarabjit Kaur and her mother Inderpreet Kaur, then set the car on fire along with the bodies in an attempt to destroy evidence. On January 25, 2026, Punjab Police officially declared this case as murder.
According to police and media reports, the accused Gurpreet Singh (brother of Sarabjit Kaur) killed his mother Inderpreet Kaur and sister Sarabjit Kaur due to a dispute related to property. There had been a long-standing conflict in the family over land, property, or inheritance. Gurpreet took this horrific step to end the dispute.
According to sources, Gurpreet Singh has also given a confessional statement to the police, in which he cited the property dispute as the main reason.
