Municipal Council President Karnail Singh leveled allegations of Rs 30 lakh bribe on App MLA from Maur during the Republic Day event.
SNPNEWS.IN News (Gurmail Kamboj): Today, large-scale official events were organized across the state on Republic Day, during which the Chief Minister, ministers, and administrative officers performed the flag-hoisting ceremony. Similarly, one such event was organized by the Municipal Council in Maur constituency. During this, the flag-hoisting ceremony was performed by the SDM. MLA Sukhbir Singh Maisarkhana arrived at the event along with his supporters. Meanwhile, a dispute arose between the MLA and Municipal Council President Karnail Singh, which has become a topic of discussion on social media.
After the SDM performed the flag-hoisting ceremony, the dispute began when the Municipal Council President was stopped from sitting on the designated chair (for the President). This escalated during the event to physical scuffles, and the Municipal Council President accused the MLA of taking a bribe of Rs 30 lakh in exchange for giving him the presidency.

After the dispute, the Council President, while speaking to the media, stated that the Municipal Council had spent approximately Rs 80,000 on this event. During this, the SDM of Maur hoisted the flag. After that, he (the President) went to the stage to sit on his designated seat, which was near the MLA. However, a supporter (Malkit Singh) of the MLA was sitting there. Despite several requests from the President and the SDM to vacate the seat, when the MLA’s supporter did not do so, he (the President) sat on the seat next to the MLA.
The Municipal Council President further said that the person for whom that seat was designated arrived, and the MLA misbehaved with the President’s son (who was sitting with the municipal Council President). The MLA and his supporters surrounded both (father and son) and attempted to assault them. After the dispute, the President leveled a serious allegation against the MLA of taking Rs 30 lakh (bribe) to grant him the presidency.
The Municipal Council President claimed that he and his family have been winning councilor elections since 1998 because they honestly resolve the problems of the people of their ward. The President also alleged that during the by-election (MC), the MLA took money to field a candidate, who faced defeat. He also accused the MLA of stopping tenders and demanded that the Chief Minister order a thorough investigation into the entire matter.
Following this controversy, Congress, Akali Dal, and BJP have leveled large-scale allegations of corruption against the Punjab government and its MLAs, describing the current government’s 4-year tenure as the most corrupt and dishonest government.
